Biographical Sketch Henry T. Mills was born in Spartanburg County in 1884, but moved to Greenville when he was twelve. Mills graduated from Davidson College in 1906 and started his investment business in Greenville the same year. A community leader, Mills was a director of Peoples National Bank, and First National Bank, and was a director of Liberty Life Insurance Company and of Surety Life Insurance Company. Mills’ relationship with Furman University started with his attendance at the Furman Fitting School. Later, Mills was instrumental in obtaining a charter for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Furman University in 1932.
